Yamanaka Yana : Only open in the summer, 600m east of Zen is Yana Yamanaka, which is run by Noburusan. He is ~85 years old…and is open he feels like it. So, this restaurant is not dependable.
He makes all of the soba and udon noodles by hand, all homemade. His signature dish is a very delicious grilled trout dish with sauteed onions and Japanese sauce. Although he doesn’t catch the fish himself, they do come from the river along the restaurant and Zen Hostel, Black River 黒川.
