Autumn leaves and foliage report for Nikko Japan

Near Zen Hostel there are many areas close by to see autumn leaves and foliage within walking and biking distance.  We have bikes for hire for 500 yen for the length of your stay.

The top of Nantai mountain is ~2500 meters above sea level and will be last to change color. The lower areas of Nikko National Park are starting.  This area is called Oku-Nikko (Senjogahara, Yumoto Onsen, Yuno Lake or Yunoko, Chuzenji Lake and the Kegon Falls area).  The elevation is around 1400 – 1600 meters above sea level.

Urami and Jakko waterfalls, Toshogu Shrine, Kirifuni Highland, Shinkyo Bridge, Nikko Botanical Garden and Zen Hostel are between 500 – 700 meters above sea level and the trees have just started to change colors.

At Zen Hostel there are momiji trees that frame the lounge area and turn to an iridescent red when fully changed. With Black River in the backdrop, it will be beautiful.
